YY session 4

Icebreaker: Did you complete the Brain Teaser #1 from Session 3? Here are the answers!

Today's Mission

Relationships are an essential part of human existence. We are born into them, we form them in school with friends and teachers, and in our communities. At work you must be able to positively and professionally engage with others. How do you do that? This session will explore what you have experienced from the positive relationships in your life, learn how your communication style can affect how you represent yourself and how others experience you and how you represent yourself digitally.

Representing Yourself!

GOALS

Today you will:

  • Understand how to build a professional relationship

  • Identify communications styles (what works best in different scenarios)

  • Create a social media mind-map (who is already in your network and who do they know?)

Continue to check-in with your host site for directions for sharing your digital portfolio items!

Portofolio Workbook Steps: Each step should take 1 hour.

STEP 1

For this step, you will create a relationship map of your personal and professional connections. Who are your people? Who are the people that you turn to? Who are the people whose behaviors you value?

In your Workbook, respond to the prompts as you create a visual map of the people who are in your web of support.

STEP 2

When working as part of a group, whether at school, in the community or at a workplace, you bring a certain style of communication with you.The more you know about your communication style, the more you can make it a strength.

  • Take the communication style quiz. Then, answer the reflection questions in your Workbook.

  • Determine your predominant style

  • Complete the traffic light reflection

STEP 3

Have you ever wondered what a digital footprint is and why it matters? We can look up anything about anyone in a matter of seconds, and that means you! The ease of access also means that how you represent yourself on Digital media matters; it’s your digital footprint.

For your final portfolio step, you will review and revise your digital footprint. Then use your Workbook to create a Digital Footprint map of your own.
